USD’s Van Hook, DU’s Winkler garner the Kwik Star #SummitVB weekly accolades

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota setter Avery Van Hook and Denver defensive specialist/libero Madison Winkler captured the latest Summit League Kwik Star Volleyball Peak Performers of the Week league officials announced Tuesday. Van Hook claimed her second career offensive honor, while Winkler earned her first defensive award.

Van Hook dished out 124 assists, 11.27 assists per set, 13 kills, and 41 digs over three matches during the Coyotes’ 2-1 weekend. The Marion, Iowa native began her weekend with 49 assists and 14 digs in a victory over Villanova. 
 
The USD junior tallied 39 assists, seven kills with a .545 hitting percentage, and 16 digs in a four-set loss to Wichita State. She then produced 36 assists, four kills with a .625 attack percentage, and 11 digs in a sweep of Drake.

Winkler totaled 64 digs in DU’s final non-conference tournament of the season as the Pioneers swept the competition at the Into The Blue Invitational hosted by Air Force. The Keller, Texas native opened the tournament with five assists and 18 digs in a sweep of the host Falcons.

The Pio freshman then posted a season-high 23 digs in back-to-back five-set wins over Utah Tech and Northern Colorado. She also added six assists in both victories as DU wrapped up its non-conference slate with an 8-3 record.
