SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State midfielder Jenna Maloy and goalkeeper Mallorie Benhart swept the Kwik Star Summit League Women’s Soccer Peak Performers of the Week following the final week of non-conference play. Maloy garnered the offensive honor, while Benhart grabbed the defensive accolade, league officials announced Tuesday. The weekly award is the first of Maloy’s career, while Benhart collected the third accolade of her junior season.
Maloy netted the game-winning goal and tallied four shots in South Dakota State’s 2-0 victory over Wyoming to close non-conference play with the most points among Summit squads at 21. The Hugo, Minn., native struck in the 40th minute for the second goal of her young career, giving SDSU a 1-0 lead over the Cowgirls. The freshman midfielder logged 84 minutes on the pitch to help the Jacks finish non-conference action with a 6-1-3 ledger over 10 matches.
Benhart delivered another standout performance in the win over the Cowgirls, recording her fourth shutout of the season. The Lakeville, Minn., native’s effort moved her into a tie for the Summit League lead in shutouts with four. The junior netminder tallied a season-high eight saves, the most of her career in a Jackrabbit uniform and the highest total by an SDSU goalkeeper since Maggie Smither’s 10-save outing in 2019.
