NDSU’s Koenen claims fifth #SummitWBB weekly accolade of the season

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State forward Avery Koenen garnered the latest Summit League Women’s Basketball Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week award, league officials announced Tuesday. The weekly accolade is Koenen’s sixth of her career and fifth of the season, surpassing South Dakota State's Brookyln Meyer for the most in the league.

Koenen played a pivotal role in helping North Dakota State open Summit League play 4-0 for the third straight season while extending the Bison’s overall win streak to 13 games. The junior averaged 13.0 points and a team-high 16.0 rebounds per game as NDSU defeated Kansas City 77-54 and Omaha 94-39. Koenen handed out a career-best six assists against the Roos and flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 17 points and a career-tying 16 rebounds.

The Montevideo, Minn., native followed that effort with another 16 boards in the win over Omaha, once again tying her career high. Koenen wrapped up her day against the Mavericks with 11 points, three assists, and a block.

Koenen paces the league in rebounding during conference play at 14.3 per game and ranks second in scoring at 17.3 ppg.
