SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Teams in The Summit League hold a combined 25-18-13 non-conference record. The league ranks seventh in the country in conference RPI and sixth in road success. League play continues Saturday with Kansas City at St. Thomas at 1 p.m., and UMass at Oral Roberts at 7 p.m.
The Summit League placed four teams among the top 10 of the latest United Soccer Coaches West Region rankings, with Kansas City ranking first, Delaware slotting at No. 3, Omaha coming in at No. 4 and UMass ranking No. 9.
Kansas City earned the first Summit League victory of the season on Saturday, knocking off Oral Roberts 3-1 at home. Mark Ramarola scored a pair of goals while Raphael Kistmann scored his first of the season in the victory.
Blake Inder earned a spot on the scoresheet for the Golden Eagles in the first half, finishing a Hagen Waesch set up to bring ORU within 2-1 right before the end of the first half. The Roos are now up to No. 5 in the USC Top 25, No. 3 in the Top Drawer Top 25 and No. 6 in RPI.
In the other conference-opening match, Omaha and Delaware traded blows, as expected for the top two scoring leagues in the conference, on the way to a 3-3 draw. Italo Jenkins opened the scoring for Omaha before Frederik Flaskager’s conference-leading eighth goal of the season evened the scoring.
Delaware would take a 3-2 lead in the 50th minute, a score that held until a Brett Perkins penalty kick in the 85th minute brought the match to a draw. Omaha now ranks 16th nationally and first in the league with 2.30 goals per game while Delaware is sixth in the country with a league-leading 26 total goals.
St. Thomas and UMass were idle from conference action and will open each of its conference slates on Saturday following road non-conference losses. The Tommies will host the Roos at 1 p.m., while the Minutemen will travel to Tulsa to take on Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. UMass and St. Thomas have both been stellar on the road, holding a 2-2-1 record in opponents' territory.
In non-conference action, Omaha battled against one of the top teams in the country, taking a 2-2 tie into the half before falling 4-2 to (4/9) Creighton on Tuesday. After Maguire Perkins brought the Mavericks within a goal, Brett Perkins scored off a corner kick to round out the scoring.
