NDSU’s Koenen sets record with eighth #SummitWBB weekly accolade

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State forward Avery Koenen earned the latest Summit League Women’s Basketball Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday. The weekly award is the eighth of Koenen’s season, breaking the Summit League record previously held by Kevi Luper of Oral Roberts (2009-10) for the most weekly awards in a single season.

Koenen delivered a strong performance in NDSU’s lone game of the week, scoring 29 points on 10-of-18 shooting to lead the Bison past in-state rival North Dakota, 87-51. The total matched her season high, and she added a game-best 13 rebounds in the win.

The Montevideo, Minn., native continued her success at the free-throw line, knocking down eight of nine attempts in the win. With the victory over the Fighting Hawks, NDSU advanced its win streak to 21 games, the second most in the country behind UConn (43).

Nationally, Koenen is tied for the third with 17 double-doubles this season. In league play, she ranks second in scoring at 19.3 ppg, leads the conference in rebounding at 12.5 per contest, and sits second in blocks at 1.8 per game.
