DU's Johnson corrals third Kwik Star #SummitMBB weekly honor

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Denver guard Carson Johnson corralled the latest Kwik Star Summit League Men’s Basketball Peak Performer of the Week accolade, securing his third of the season, league officials announced Tuesday.

Johnson averaged 28.5 ppg and 3.0 apg to lead Denver to a pair of home wins last week and vault the Pioneers into the top half of the Summit League standings – a place DU has not finished since the 2017-18 season.

In the Pioneers’ 90-70 victory over South Dakota, Johnson scored a career-high 35 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the field, including a 5-for-7 effort from beyond the arc. The 30-point game was the third of the season for the Minnesota State-Moorhead transfer.

In DU’s 82-80 win over St. Thomas, Johnson went 8-for-13 from the field and 3-for-7 from deep to push the Pioneers past the second-place team in the Summit standings. Down the stretch, Johnson tied the game with a jumper at the 1:20 mark, tied it again with two free throws at the :47 mark, then assisted on the eventual game-winning 3-pointer hit by Julius Rollins with :08 on the clock.

Johnson is the top scoring sophomore in the country with 603 total points and tops the Summit Leage in scoring at 20.1 ppg overall and 22.5 ppg in conference play.
