#SummitWBB Weekly Notebook: No. 13

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – In just one month, the 2026 Summit League Women’s Basketball Championship tips off at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. The journey to Sioux Falls and for a regular-season trophy continues tonight at 8 p.m. CT as South Dakota State visits St. Thomas.

North Dakota State continued its dominant start to the season, extending its overall winning streak to 18 straight and a perfect league start to 9-0. All of that allowed the Bison to take over the No. 1 spot in the CollegeInsider Mid-Major Top 25 as they prep for two road tests this week at Kansas City and Omaha.

South Dakota re-entered the mid-major Top 25 at No. 24 following a key win over South Dakota State. The loss dropped the Jackrabbits from No. 4 to No. 10 in the rankings.

Plenty of opportunities to climb the Summit League standings are on tap this week, highlighted by a matchup between fourth-place Oral Roberts and tied-for-second South Dakota, tipping off at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday.

All games this week can be streamed on the Summit League Network.

AROUND THE LEAGUE
• North Dakota State extended its win streak to 18 games with back-to-back home victories over Denver (95-55) and Oral Roberts (93-72).
• The 18-game winning streak is NDSU’s longest since the 2004-05 season when the Bison won 24 straight at the Division II level, and currently ranks as the second-longest active streak in the nation behind UConn (38).
• With the win over ORU, NDSU achieved the 20-win mark for the third consecutive season and are one of eight DI teams to reach that plateau this season.
• Junior forward Avery Koenen powered the Bison past the Golden Eagles with a game-high 25 points and 13 rebounds, logging her 16th double-double of the season, tied for the national lead.
• South Dakota earned a 67-55 win over St. Thomas before knocking off in-state rival South Dakota State, 73-54, for the first time since the 2022 Summit League Championship game.
• USD outscored SDSU 41-24 in the second half to snap the seven-game losing streak.
• Against the Jackrabbits, senior Angelina Robles scored a season-high 25 points with 6-of-7 shooting from deep to surpass the 1,000-point mark.
• The loss marked the first time since the 2019-20 season that SDSU has dropped two regular-season conference games.
• Preseason Player of the Year Brooklyn Meyer poured in a game-high 27 points, marking her 14th 20-point performance of the season.
• Two weeks ago, both Koenen and Meyer were named to the midseason watch list for the 2026 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year award, making the Summit League one of only two conferences with multiple representatives (Atlantic 10).
• Last week, Head coaches Aaron Johnston (SDSU) and Jory Collins (NDSU) were named to the Midseason Watch List for the 2026 Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Award
• Oral Roberts split its weekend in North Dakota, knocking off UND 89-80 before falling to NDSU 93-72.
• Five Golden Eagles scored in double figures in the win, led by junior Gentry Baldwin’s career-high 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting.
• ORU’s Jalei Oglesby followed Baldwin with 21 points, her seventh 20+ point outing.
• Kansas City won its lone game of the week at Omaha, with junior guard Emani Bennett converting the game-winning layup with four seconds remaining to lift the Roos to a 60-59 victory.
• Bennett finished with 17 points as KC downed the Mavericks for the second time this season.
• St. Thomas forward Alyssa Sand tallied 12 points, marking her 19th double-digit scoring game of the season, as the Tommies fell in their only game of the week against South Dakota.
• Sand also grabbed 10 rebounds to record her third straight double-double.
• Denver fell on the road to North Dakota State and narrowly lost to North Dakota 73-72 this past week, as the Fighting Hawks rattled off an 11-0 run in the final five minutes to take the lead and hold on for the win.
• Junior Jocelyn Medina paced the Pioneers against UND with a season-high 23 points.
• North Dakota’s Ava Miller finished with eight points, including the go-ahead bucket with 23 seconds remaining to help secure the Fighting Hawks’ victory.
• The next day, UND was able to take down Bismarck State 89-80 in a makeup game from Dec. 9.
• Omaha held KC to a single fourth-quarter field goal, the game-winner, as the Mavericks’ losing streak reached nine.
• The Mavs outscored the Roos 38-21 in the second half, but were unable to conquer the first half deficit.
