SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Summit League men's soccer teams wasted little time making their presence felt on the national stage, combining for a 7-1-4 record during an action-packed opening week that featured wins over ranked opponents, multiple shutouts, dramatic comebacks and clutch goalkeeping performances.

(RV/23) UMass highlighted the week's slate with a pair of impressive results, battling No. 10 Bryant to a 2-2 draw before rallying for a 3-1 victory over No. 24 UConn in its home opener. The Roos, coming off their second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth, carried that momentum into the 2026 campaign, opening with a 5-0 victory over SIUE before earning a 1-0 win against UNLV.

Delaware also opened the season with a pair of victories, defeating Howard and Temple by identical 1-0 scores. Sophomore Liam Penny provided the game-winning goal against Howard, while Freddy Jeffreys found the back of the net for the deciding goal against Temple.

Omaha showcased its resilience in its season opener, overcoming an early 2-0 deficit against Eastern Illinois by scoring four unanswered goals to secure a 4-2 victory. The Mavericks followed with a scoreless draw against FIU.

Oral Roberts also opened the season unbeaten, defeating UC Riverside, 2-0, before battling UIC to a 1-1 draw. Goalkeeper Cameron Parma came up with a crucial penalty-kick save in the 87th minute to preserve the result for the Golden Eagles.

St. Thomas dropped its season opener to Detroit Mercy before earning a 1-1 draw against Green Bay.

With the opening week in the books, the Summit League has already made its mark against some of the nation's top competition. Week 2 provides another opportunity for League teams to build on that momentum and continue making noise on the national stage.

AROUND THE LEAGUE
•Five of the six Summit League teams enter the second week of the season unbeaten, with Kansas City and Delaware both sporting 2-0 records and UMass, Omaha and Oral Roberts each at 1-0-1.
•Through the first week of competition, Summit League teams have combined for six shutouts. Kansas City and Delaware have each posted two, while Omaha and Oral Roberts have each recorded one.
• Kansas City started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2022. The preseason favorite opened with a 5-0 win over SIUE, its largest win over a Division I opponent since 2002. Goalkeeper Brandon Kincaid recorded consecutive shutouts.
• The Roos improved to No. 15 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and No. 19 in the TopDrawerSoccer poll.
• Delaware also opened the season 2-0, earning consecutive 1-0 victories over Howard and Temple. The Blue Hens’ defense has been particularly dominant, allowing just three shots, none of which were on target, in the 1-0 win over Howard.
•The Blue Hens have won 10 consecutive home matches dating back to last season.
•UMass picked up one of the biggest wins of the opening week with a 3-1 victory over No. 24 UConn. Thomas Wadas scored two of the Minutemen’s three goals to record his first career brace. The Minutemen tied No. 10 Bryant earlier in the week.
•UMass’ win over UConn marked its first victory over the Huskies since 1992.
• Omaha overcame an early 2-0 deficit against Eastern Illinois, scoring four unanswered goals to claim a 4-2 victory in the season opener.
• The Mavericks drew the largest reported attendance of the opening week, with 1,009 fans attending the 0-0 draw against FIU.
• Omaha senior goalkeeper Kamy Ndione matched his career high with five saves against FIU.
• Oral Roberts goalkeeper Cameron Parma stopped a penalty kick in the 87th minute against UIC to preserve a 1-1 draw.
• Golden Eagle freshman Brice Denigan scored his first collegiate goal, which ultimately served as the equalizer in the 1-1 draw against UIC.
• Detroit Mercy’s 2-0 victory in St. Paul ended St. Thomas’ 656-day unbeaten streak at home.
• St. Thomas forward Oliver Corris’ goal against Green Bay was his first of the season and the second of his career. He now has a 1-0-1 record in matches in which he scores.
