SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Summit League Commissioner Josh Fenton announced additions to the Summit League staff Monday. Andy Thurston will lead the strategic communications area as senior director, while Jeffery Green joins the strategic communications team as an assistant director. Sarah Humphries has been hired as director of sport and championship operations.
Fenton also announced expanded responsibilities for existing staff members Bryan Miller and Sarah Swanson. Miller, who will serve as senior associate commissioner for commercial and brand strategy, will oversee strategic communications, creative content, revenue generation, marketing, and branding. Swanson, who will serve as associate commissioner for championships and student-athlete services and senior woman administrator (SWA), will add oversight of the Competition Oversight Committee and basketball championship operations to her responsibilities and serve as the liaison to member institutions' SWAs.
“I am ecstatic about the entire team we have entering the new academic year and look forward to working closely with everyone to add value for our member institutions,” Fenton said.
Thurston joins the Summit League after three years at Augustana University, where he most recently served as assistant athletics director for communications. In that role, he oversaw communications efforts for multiple programs, managed conference and national tournament media operations, and led content and social media initiatives that expanded the department's reach.
“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to join the Summit League team,” Thurston said. “I’m looking forward to strengthening the League’s brand and building connections throughout the conference and its footprint.”
Humphries joins the Summit League after seven years as director of field hockey operations at the University of Iowa. As the program’s first director of operations, she oversaw day-to-day operations for a nationally ranked Division I program, including budgeting, compliance, travel, event logistics and administrative support. She previously served as a head and assistant field hockey coach at the Division III level.
“I am excited to join the Summit League and look forward to creating a positive impact across multiple sports and championship experiences for all student-athletes,” Humphries said.
Green joins the Summit League after spending the past year with the West Coast Conference, where he served as a communications fellow. He previously worked as an external relations intern with the WCC and as a sports communications graduate assistant with the Horizon League.
“I am honored and blessed to be joining the Summit League team,” Green said. “It is a great privilege to be able to work with all of our amazing member institutions and highlight all the great success they strive for.”
Miller is entering his ninth year with the Summit League and previously served as associate commissioner for marketing, sponsorships and external affairs. Swanson is entering her fourth year with the Summit League and has served as assistant commissioner for sports, championships and student-athlete services since joining the League in 2023.
