SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State outside hitter Sylvie Zgonc and Kansas City defensive specialist/libero Chloe Kaminski are the first Summit League Volleyball Peak Performers of the Week this season, league officials announced Tuesday. Zgonc earned her sixth career offensive honor, while Kaminski claimed her first defensive award.
Zgonc was named to the Asics Classic All-Tournament Team after totaling 54 kills and averaging 4.15 kills per set during the Jackrabbits’ opening weekend. The Hartford, Wis., native opened her senior season with a .336 hitting percentage across three matches while adding 26 digs.
The SDSU senior recorded 23 kills and a .452 hitting percentage in a five-set match against Sacramento State. She followed with nine kills and four digs against Pepperdine before closing the weekend with 22 kills and a .340 hitting percentage in a five-set thriller against (RV) Villanova.
Kaminski totaled 61 digs during the Roos’ opening weekend at the Stacheville Challenge. The Blue Springs, Mo., native opened the season with 19 digs and 10 assists against Jackson State.
The KC senior then posted a career-high 30 digs, nine assists and two service aces in a five-set match against UT Martin. She closed tournament play with 12 digs, 10 assists and two service aces against Austin Peay. Kaminski currently ranks fifth nationally with an average of 5.55 digs per set.
