SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Summit League men's soccer teams moved to a combined 14-10-9 after navigating a week full of ranked opponents. Kansas City moved back into the Top Drawer Top 25 after recording a 1-1 tie against No. 3 SMSU and a 1-0 victory over Drake.
Trailing 1-0 in the 90th minute against SMU, Mark Ramarola scored his first career goal to help the Roos to a ranked tie. Against the Bulldogs, it was Ian Witis-Hughes who scored the lone goal while Brandon Kincaid recorded his third clean sheet of the season to push UMKC to the win. The schedule doesn’t get easier for UMKC as they begin a stretch of three-consecutive ranked matchups on Friday, hosting No. 10 Michigan State at Durwood Soccer Stadium.
St. Thomas extended its unbeaten streak to five matches before dropping a 2-0 decision at Marquette on Wednesday. Lorenzo Jacon blasted home a redirect in front for the lone goal while Mortiz Krenc posted four saves to tally his second clean sheet of the season in their Saturday victory against Milwaukee.
After a 4-3 heartbreaker against No. 2 Maryland on Friday, Delaware added its fourth shutout of the season with a 3-0 road win against Loyola (Md.). Frederik Flaskager scored the first three goals of his career in those two matches, a game-tying goal in the 81st minute against Maryland and a first-half brace against Loyola. Eric Widrick’s four shutouts for Delaware this season are tied for the most in the country with five other goalkeepers.
Omaha took its first defeat of the season on Sunday, a dropping a 2-1 match against No. 12 UCLA after a 1-1 tie with Utah Valley last Thursday. The Mavericks scored first in both games, Brett Perkins on a penalty kick against Utah Valley and Mikey Stukenholtz to open the scoring against UCLA.
UMass goalkeeper Dean Linden had five saves in the Minutemen’s lone game of the week, a 2-0 loss to No. 23 Princeton. Oral Roberts dropped a 2-1 match on the road against Central Arkansas on Friday, with Chance Anderson scoring off a Roman Hemphill corner kick in the 28th minute. Linden and ORU keeper Cameron Parma are tied for 14th nationally with 24 total saves.
Five of the six League teams saw themselves ranked in the USC West Region rankings this week. The Roos were tops among five Summit squads at at No. 2, Omaha slotting at No. 5, Delaware coming in at No. 6, UMass ranking No. 7 and St. Thomas rounding out the group at No. 9. The five programs account for half of the region’s top 10 spots.
