SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Summit League men's soccer teams moved to a combined 18-14-12 in non-conference action following another action-packed week.
Kansas City earned a 3-1 victory over then-No. 10/25 Michigan State and a 3-3 draw against No. 12/16 Missouri State over the last week, moving up to No. 16 in the USC Top 25 and 14 in the Top Drawer Top 25. The Roos are attacking from all angles, ranking fifth in the country and first in The Summit League with 3.29 assists per game. UMKC will continue a tough stretch on Sunday, hosting No. 10/7 San Diego on The Summit League Network.
Omaha moved into the conference lead in scoring after a 6-0 offensive onslaught against Yale last Thursday. In just 14 minutes of action, Austin Kaiser scored a brace, the first two goals of his career, against the Bulldogs. The Mavericks have a goal differential of +10 through seven games, the highest mark in the conference and 17th-highest in the country.
Delaware had a pair of high-scoring affairs, tying Mount St. Mary’s 2-2 and Penn 3-3. Freddy Jeffreys scored game-tying goals in each match, including a penalty kick in the 81st minute on Tuesday to leave Penn with a point. Eric Widrick’s four shutouts for Delaware this season are tied for the third-most in the country.
UMass went on the road and earned a dominant 1-0 victory over Stonehill on Wednesday. Goalkeeper Dean Linden had a pair of saves Minutemen and earned his second clean sheet of the season.
Oral Roberts also tallied a clean sheet, knocking off UTRGV 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Tulsa. Cameron Parma had a pair of saves while Lazarus Ocira and Emre Aydin were the Golden Eagle goal scorers. Widrick, Linden and Parma all rank inside the top 20 nationally in saves.
St. Thomas played its lone match of the week on Sunday, dropping a 1-0 contest against Xavier. The Tommies return to action on Friday in St. George, Utah against Utah Tech.
The Summit League placed five teams among the top nine of the latest United Soccer Coaches West Region rankings, with Kansas City at No. 2, Omaha slotting at No. 5, Delaware coming in at No. 6, UMass ranking No. 7 and St. Thomas rounding out the group at No. 9. The five programs account for half of the region’s top 10 spots.
