Scholar-Athlete Spotlight: Omaha

Each month, The Summit League will feature outstanding student-athlete performances from a selected institution as recognized by its Faculty Athletic Representative. The December installment of The Summit League Scholar-Athlete Spotlight features three student-athletes from Omaha.

Paige Frauendorfer, Women’s Basketball
Eligibility Year/Hometown: Sr./Humphrey, Neb.
Major: Biology/Pre-Pharmacy
GPA:  3.97

Paige Frauendorfer is in her senior season of an outstanding four-year career on and off the basketball court. Frauendorfer holds a 3.97 cumulative grade-point average majoring in biology/pre-pharmacy. A member of the Chancellor’s List and Dean’s List, Frauendorfer has led the Maverick women’s basketball team academically each year of her career. She also led the Mavs on the court as a junior in 2011-12 in scoring (13.1 ppg) and rebounding (9.1 rpg). Frauendorfer was named to the preseason All-Summit League Second Team prior to the 2012-13 season. Through three games she has not disappointed, averaging 16.7 ppg and 9.0 rpg and earning Summit League Player of the Week on Nov. 19 while helping the Mavs to a 3-0 start. Frauendorfer, who has started every game since the beginning of her sophomore season, is on pace to reach 1,000 career points, needing to average 8.7 ppg this season to do so.

Amy Roberts, Volleyball
Eligibility Year/Hometown: Sr./Norfolk, Neb.
Major: Spanish/Secondary Education
GPA: 3.93

Senior Amy Roberts played in every match of her three-year Maverick career as a defensive specialist or libero, and her senior season proved to be her best. She ranked third in the Summit League in service aces (0.28 per set) and eighth in digs (4.19 per set), which also ranks first on the UNO team. Roberts was one-of-six student-athletes selected to the Summit League’s Volleyball Academic All-League Team, honored for their combined athletic and academic performances. The Norfolk, Neb., native carries a 3.93 GPA in secondary education and Spanish, and she is a member of the UNO Dean’s List and Chancellor’s List. Roberts is set to graduate with her bachelor's degrees in May 2013.

Karl Krieser, Men’s Golf
Eligibility Year/Hometown: So./Omaha, Neb.
Major: Bioinformatics
GPA:  3.73

Karl Krieser is tied for the team scoring lead with a stroke average of 77.0 following 14 rounds during the fall season. He owns four of the top nine 18-hole rounds shot by a Maverick this season including a season-best score of 71, shot during the first round of the Houston Baptist Husky Invitational on Oct. 22. In that same tournament, Krieser tied the Omaha Division I school record for the best 54-hole score with a total of 219. In addition to his team-low round of 71, the Omaha native had two rounds of 72, giving him the top three scores shot by a Maverick this fall. The sophomore has a career scoring average of 78.2 for 35 rounds which ranks best among players on the Omaha roster with at least one full season of experience.
