TUCSON, Ariz. — The Summit League had four representatives on the Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-America Team, powered by Diamond, that was announced on Wednesday.
South Dakota State had a pair of players on the squad as the duo of first baseman Drew Beazley and starting pitcher Nic McCay was joined on the team by Oral Roberts' utility player Isaac Coffey and North Dakota State starting pitcher Max Loven.
Beazley batted .275 with four home runs, 11 doubles and 21 runs batted in and reached base safely in each of the Jackrabbits' final 21 games. McCay held a spot in the Jackrabbits' starting rotation throughout the 2019 season, compiling a 6-1 record with a 4.08 earned run average. A second-team All-Summit League honoree along with Beazley, he led the squad with two complete games and finished second on the team with 83 strikeouts in 79.1 innings pitched.
Coffey was an All-Summit League First Team selection as a utility player and was the league's top offensive freshman in home runs (6), RBI (32) and slugging percentage (.472) and also ranked in the top 10 in the conference with 11 doubles and a .292 batting average.
Coffey also started 14 games on the mound and his 3.82 ERA was the best for an ORU starter and ranked fifth in the league as he threw 61.1 innings and fanned 56 for a 3-2 record. He tossed a five-hit shutout at The Summit League Championship in an elimination game against the Jackrabbits.
Loven was named the league's Newcomer of the Year and joined Coffey as the only two freshmen on the All-League First Team. He led the league with three complete games and his 2.74 ERA ranked second in the league as he posted a 4-2 record and struck out 78 in 88.2 innings of work.
