MACOMB, Ill. - After the first round of play the North Dakota State men and Oral Roberts women teams are in the lead at The Summit League Golf Championships at the Harry Mussatto Golf Course in Macomb, Ill.
On the men's side, North Dakota State has a score of 285, followed closely by UMKC with a 289. Western Illinois and Oral Roberts are in a tie for third place with 294, while Southern Utah and South Dakota State sit in fifth place with 298 strokes. IUPUI comes in in seventh place with 299 strokes, followed by Oakland (303), Centenary (309) and IPFW (310).
The Oral Roberts women hold the early lead after round one with 302 strokes. South Dakota State and Centenary are tied for second with 325 strokes. Oakland (327) and Westen Illinois (331) follow in fourth and fifth place, respectively. IUPUI (333), North Dakota State (339), Southern Utah (342), UMKC (343) and IPFW (349) round out the field.
The Bison's Joe Schornack leads the men's field with a five-under 67, followed by teammate Taylor Cavanagh with a 69, as they were the only players to shoot under a 70 in the first round. Stephen Clark and Jared Steger are tied for third after shooting a 70 on the day. Southern Utah's Eric Nilsson, IUPUI's Ben Engle and Oakland's Frank McAuliffe round out the top five with an even par 72.
Pamela Ontiveros and Christy Carter of Oral Roberts lead the women's contingent at the championships with a 71 and 72, respectively, after day one of competition. Five players are in a three-way tie for third place with a 77. Those include SDSU's Hillary Gerster, Centenary's Chloe Mims, Western Illinois' Becky Allen, IUPUI's Tara Boone and NDSU's Jenna Buckwalter.
The second round continues Monday morning with the first competitors teeing-off at 7:30 a.m. from the Harry Mussatto Golf Course in Macomb, Ill.
