ELMHURST, Ill. - After winning its third straight Summit League title, the Western Illinois men's golf team earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. On Monday, the NCAA announced that the Leathenecks will participate in the East Regional in Chattanooga, Tenn., from May 15-17, at the Council Fire Golf Club.
WIU is led by Jared Steger, with a 74.2 stroke average, and league Player of the Year Kyle Peterman, with a 75.1 average on the season. Peterman captured The Summit League Championship individual title in a one-hole playoff over Southern Utah's Nate Page after firing a three-round total of 216 (73-74-69) at the Harry Mussatto Golf Course in Macomb, Ill. Jason Woll has a 76.8 average on the year and was the third Western player to finish in the top-10 at the league championships. The Leathernecks will also send Brian Scott (76.1) and Austin Lambert (79.1) to the NCAA Regionals.
Ten teams and two individuals not on qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championship Finals from the each of the three regional sites. The NCAA Men's Golf Championship will be held May 28-31 on the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.
