FORT WAYNE 87, ORAL ROBERTS 83
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Brent Calhoun drove for a layup and made two free throws in the final minute to secure Fort Wayne's 87-83 win over Oral Roberts in Summit League play on Saturday.
Fort Wayne led throughout the second half until Jalen Bradley made two free throws to give Oral Roberts an 80-79 lead with 1:19 left. Calhoun responded with a layup to retake the lead, and Mo Evans and Kason Harrell each added two free throws to go ahead 85-80. ORU's Aaron Young drilled a trey to close to 85-83 with 12 seconds remaining. Calhoun hit the final free throws for the win.
Calhoun finished with a career-high 19 points, making 8 of 12 field-goal attempts. Bryson Scott added 16 points and John Konchar chipped in 13 points while pulling down 14 rebounds for Fort Wayne (16-7, 5-4). Harrell added 12 points.
Albert Owens led ORU (7-16, 3-6) with 20 points.
SOUTH DAKOTA 88, DENVER 83
VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — Matt Mooney scored 27 points, including four amid a game-breaking run late in the second half, and South Dakota beat Denver 88-83 on Saturday to remain in second place in the Summit League.
Trey Dickerson and Mooney each hit 3s and the Pioneers led 48-42 early in the second half, but Denver tied it at 53 on Joe Rosga's 3-pointer, then tied it again at 60, 64, 67 and 69.
Daniel Amigos' jumper put Denver up 79-76, but Mooney made two layups during a 9-0 run and the Coyotes pulled away 85-79 with 40 seconds left and Denver got no closer.
Tyler Flack scored 19 and Trey Burch-Manning and Tyler Peterson added 10 apiece for the Coyotes (15-9, 6-3).
The lead flip-flopped until Mooney's free throw broke a 36-tie and the Coyotes led 42-38 at halftime after Peterson's layup and Mooney's 3-pointer.
Rosga scored 20 for the Pioneers (13-9, 5-4), who saw their two-game win streak end.
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 88, OMAHA 84
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Mike Daum's layup with over a minute to go gave South Dakota State a four-point lead and the Jackrabbits made it stick to earn an 88-84 win over Omaha in a Summit League battle Saturday night.
Daum missed a layup with 1:25 left, grabbed the offensive rebound but missed the put-back, then had his layup blocked by Tra-Deon Hollins before finally scoring with 1:12 left to give South Dakota State an 85-81 advantage.
Mitchell Hahn hit the second of two free throws to get Omaha within three, 85-82. Daum made the second of two free throws to make it a four-point game.
Daum finished with 33 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field, including 4 of 8 from long distance, and grabbed nine rebounds for South Dakota State (10-14, 3-6).
Omaha (11-11, 4-5), which won the first meeting between the teams 101-93, got 20 points from Marcus Tyus.
WESTERN ILLINOIS 78, IUPUI 69
MACOMB, Ill. (AP) — Dalan Ancrum scored a career-high 20 points to lead Western Illinois to a 78-69 victory over IUPUI on Saturday night to snap a four-game losing streak.
Garret Covington added 16 points for Western Illinois (7-13, 4-5 Summit League), which shot 28 of 54 (52 percent) from the floor. Brandon Gilbeck had 15 points, and Mike Miklusak finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Darell Combs scored 21 points to lead IUPUI (9-14, 3-6). Ron Patterson added 17 points and Aaron Brennan chipped in 12.
Brennan made a 3-pointer and IUPUI had its last lead, 59-57, with 4:46 left. Covington answered with a 3, sparking an 8-0 run and the Leatherjackets led 65-59. The Jaguars pulled to 67-63 with 1:47 remaining before Western Illinois closed on an 11-6 surge. Covington scored four points and Jeremiah Usiosefe had a dunk during the stretch.
