SDSU Improves to 3-0, Three Road Teams Win Thursday in #SummitMBB Action


BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) - Mike Daum scored 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and South Dakota State defeated Oral Roberts 78-75 on Thursday night to take sole possession of first place in the Summit League.

Reed Tellinghuisen added 24 points and David Jenkins Jr. 15 for the Jackrabbits (15-5, 3-0), who have won six straight. The Jackrabbits made 10 of 27 from behind the arc, including four by Daum, who notched his 20th career double-double.

Chris Miller scored 14 points, Javan White 13 and Albert Owens 12 for the Golden Eagles (7-12, 3-1).

Sam Kearns scored with 2:34 left to get Oral Roberts within a point, 75-74, after trailing by 10 with fewer than six minutes left. But the only points after that were three free throws by Jenkins and one by Kearns.

Oral Roberts tried a long inbounds pass to Miller with three seconds left but the ball went off his fingertips.


FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Trey Burch-Manning, Tyler Hagedorn and Tyler Peterson each scored 12 points as South Dakota won its first Summit League road game of the season, downing Fort Wayne, 68-58 on Thursday night.

South Dakota swept the home-and-home season series last year and has won three straight against the Mastodons for the first time in the series.

Brandon Armstrong sandwiched two jumpers around a trey to put the Coyotes in the lead with 3:24 left in the first half and it was pushed to a 33-27 advantage by intermission. South Dakota maintained a double-digit lead through much of the second half.

Hagedorn grabbed 11 rebounds to lead South Dakota (15-5, 3-1) while Burch-Manning and Peterson combined to grab another 15. Matt Mooney, who came into the contest averaging 19 points per game through three conference games, finished with 10.

Bryson Scott scored 26 points to lead Fort Wayne (12-8, 1-2) and is 12 shy of 1,000 career points.


FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Joe Rosga scored 15 points and Denver pulled away early in the second half and cruised to a 67-61 victory over North Dakota State on Thursday night for its first Summit League victory.

Denver (7-10, 1-2) used a 15-0 run, including three straight 3-pointers, spanning both halves for a 41-22 lead early in the second. Jake Pemberton scored five points and Ade Murkey had four during the stretch. The Pioneers held a double-digit lead until the last five minutes.

Paul Miller scored 20 points to lead North Dakota State (9-8, 1-2). His 3-pointer with 1:41 left pulled the Bison to 65-59, but they didn't get closer.

Pemberton added 14 points and Daniel Amigo had 13 for Denver. Murkey scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half.

A.J. Jacobson and Tyson Ward chipped in 11 points apiece for the Bison.


MACOMB, Ill. (AP) — Lamar Wofford-Humphrey and Zach Jackson each scored 18 points and Omaha won a battle of previously winless Summit League teams with an 87-66 win over Western Illinois on Thursday night.

Omaha had its five-game home win streak snapped by South Dakota State last week has now won three of its last five.

J.T. Gibson hit a 3 with 10:08 left in the first half to give Omaha a 10-point lead it pushed to as many as 15 before taking a 42-30 advantage into intermission.

The Mavericks (6-13, 1-2) were 33 of 62 from the field (53.2 percent) and knocked down 13 of 27 shots from beyond the three-point arc. Daniel Norl and Gibson each added 16 points.

Western Illinois (8-7, 0-3) lost its first two conference games on the road last week and has now lost five of its last six games.

Kobe Webster lead the Leathernecks with 18 points and Brandon Gilbeck assed 16.
