SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The conference slate officially gets underway on Saturday when Denver and Omaha square off in the first Summit League match of the season. The remaining squads will kick off their league schedules in the days that follow.


Around The League

• Denver ranks fourth nationally in both the United Soccer Coaches Poll and the Top Drawer Soccer Poll

• Denver senior forward Andre Shinyashiki earned his third offensive player of the week award of the year and sixth of his career. His six-career offensive player of the week honors ranks first in Summit League history and is tied for fourth in overall POW awards

• Shinyashiki was named the national player of the week by both the United Soccer Coaches and Top Drawer Soccer

• Shinyashiki leads the NCAA in multiple statistical categories: goals (13), points (28), goals per match (1.86), points per match (4.00), shots per match (5.71), shots on goal per match (3.86) and match-winning goals (5)

• Purdue Fort Wayne is ranked third in the NCAA in scoring offense with 2.86 goals per match

• Purdue Fort Wayne ranks second nationally in total goals scored with 20

• To date, Purdue Fort Wayne has played the second toughest schedule in the country while Omaha has played the 15th toughest

• Shinyashiki was named a candidate for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award. The last time The Summit League had a finalist was in 2011

• Oral Roberts has played well in September, posting a record of 4-0-1

• The first conference match of the season will be played on Saturday between No. 4/4 Denver and Omaha. Last season Denver won the match 2-1 at home

• Western Illinois sophomore midfielder Paul Kirdorf leads the Leathernecks with two goals on the year

• Eastern Illinois is currently second in The Summit League with an 80 percent save percentage
