TULSA, Okla. (oruathletics.com) – As Selection Monday comes to a close, the Oral Roberts women's basketball will continue its season in the postseason for the fifth time in six seasons as the Golden Eagles earned a spot in the Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament.
ORU enters the WBI as the No. 5 seed and will play at Texas State Wednesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. in the first round of the 16-team tournament.
The Golden Eagles enter postseason play with a 16-15 record and finished third in the Summit League. It is the first time ORU has appeared in the WBI and second postseason under head coach Misti Cussen who led the Golden Eagles to the NCAA tournament in her first season.
ORU is led by senior Vicky McIntyre who led the nation in rebounds with 15.7 boards per game and was second in blocks (4.68) and double-doubles with 25. McIntyre was named Summit League Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year while also earning All-Tournament honors in the league postseason tournament.
Texas State enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed with a 17-14 record and an 11-9 mark in the Sun Belt. The Bobcats fell in the Sun Belt Semifinals to UALR – who also defeated ORU during the regular season and earned the Sun Belt's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Erin Peoples paced Texas State averaging 13.7 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per contest. Peoples was also a Second Team All-Conference selection by the Sun Belt Conference.
