Denver’s Nelson notches final weekly accolade of the season

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Denver forward Madison Nelson notched her sixth Summit League Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor and final of the season, league officials announced Monday. Nelson averaged 28.5 ppg and 12.5 rpg to help Denver earn two wins to finish the season and clinch the No. 3 seed at The Summit League Basketball Tournament.

In the Pioneers' 85-67 win over Purdue Fort Wayne, Nelson led the efforts recording a career-high 34 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Her 34 points against the Mastodons ties the program's Division I record for points in a single-game and marks her third 30-point game this year.

The Dover, Minn., native ended the regular season guiding Denver to an 84-78 victory over Western Illinois in the final game of the regular season to clinch the No. 3 seed at the tournament. Nelson notched her fourth straight double-double and 19th of the season with 23 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. She also recorded five blocks during the game to move to sixth in program history with 117 career blocks. 

After the final week of the regular season, Nelson has set new program records for single-season points with 559 and rebounds with 333.
