Around The League
• Summit League squads tacked on five more shutouts to bring the season total to 27 in that category. With one more full weekend of non-conference action (13 total matches), that is just four shy of last year's total of 31 in all games.
• Speaking of improvement, the league has combined for 31 non-conference victories already, which is eight more than a year ago and on pace for the most in any of the last five seasons (33; 2016).
• After wrapping up a six-match homestand with a 2-0 loss to Pac-12 member Arizona State on Monday, SDSU picked up a win and a tie against two Big Sky foes on the road. The Jacks defeated Idaho State 2-0 on Thursday, then tied reigning Big Sky Champion Eastern Washington on Sunday.
• Junior goalkeeper Maggie Smither made nine saves in the win over the Bengals and five more in the tie against the Eagles. She earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades and leads the league with 50 saves.
• North Dakota picked up its league-leading sixth and seventh shutouts of the season in wins over Grambling (2-0) and Alcorn (12-0). UND is now plus-24 in goal differential in eight matches.
• Senior Katie Moller garnered her second Summit League Offensive Player of the Week accolade after scoring the opening goal in both of those victories. In the 12-0 blanking of the Braves, Moller added another goal and three assists to finish the week with nine points (3 goals, 3 assists).
• UND's 12 goals set a school record for a single match and tied for the third most by a Summit League squad. Oakland holds the single-match record at 16.
• ORU snapped a five-game losing streak in dramatic fashion when Nelly Mamabolo scored a golden goal in the first overtime session of a 3-2 win over Missouri State.
• Senior Jordan Langenbartels set up the game-winner in OT and squared the game at 2-2 in the 88th-minute. That was her fifth goal of the season, which puts her second among Summit League players in goals scored.
• DU dropped a 2-1 contest to Colorado in the squad's final game of the 2018 Colorado Cup. The Pioneers venture out to the Golden State for their final two non-conference matches vs. UC Riverside (Friday) and Cal State Fullerton (Sunday).
• NDSU resumes play Thursday after an 11-day break at the Rainbow Wahine Shootout Sept. 20-22 in Waipahu, Hawaii. The Bison, who have only played five matches so far, will play Grand Canyon on Thursday and wrap up its Aloha Trip with the host, Hawaii, on Sunday.
