University of North Dakota senior captain Katie Moller has been named a 2018 Senior CLASS Award Second-Team All-American, it was announced on Thursday.
Moller had been one of the 10 national finalists for the Senior CLASS Award in women's soccer, which honors NCAA Division I seniors who have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition. The award went to Ole Miss forward/midfielder CeCe Kizer.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Moller finished with 15 goals on the season, which were the fourth most in a single season at UND as well as in Summit League history. Her 31 career tallies placed her fourth all-time in the record books at North Dakota and were the most during the Division I era. Her 35 points this season also broke into the record books, placing fourth in a single season for the Fighting Hawks and ranking fifth all-time in league history. Her 70 total points over her four-year career were just five shy of matching Loomis' mark for the most during the DI era at UND.
In the classroom, the West Linn, Ore., native is a communication and physics major who has been named to three consecutive Big Sky Conference Academic All-Conference Teams and was most recently named to the 2018 Summit League Academic All-League Team. In 2017, she became first player in program history to be named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-West Region Team. Moller is also a four-year recipient of the Presidential Scholarship and is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She also serves a teacher's assistant for math, a tutor at the Physics Learning Center at UND, and worked on a research project to help improve the English Coulee on campus.
