SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The 2018 volleyball season officially gets underway this weekend with all nine Summit League teams competing.

Around The League
•South Dakota and North Dakota start the weekend with the Coyotes playing Northeastern at the Panther Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis., while the Fighting Hawks are matching up against Rice at the Red Raider Classic in Lubbock, Texas in what will be their first official Summit League competition.
•Five Power Five matches are slated for league teams in the opening weekend, including matches against Northwestern, Colorado, Texas Tech, Utah and TCU. 
•The reigning Summit League Tournament champs Denver will round off its opening weekend schedule with a nationally-ranked Utah squad (No. 19).
•NDSU, who returns seven players from last season's squad, will face three new opponents out in Buffalo, N.Y. The Bison open against Seton Hall on Friday with Niagara to follow and finish the weekend with host Buffalo on Saturday. 
•Omaha, who brings back the 2017 Summit League Freshman of the Year, makes a trip down to Louisiana to play against New Orleans (Friday), Murray St. and Houston (Saturday). 
•Summit League newcomer North Dakota will play its first official match as a league member in Texas on Friday against Rice and later that night face Texas Tech.
•Western Illinois will open its season at home during the opening weekend. For the fifth-straight season, the Leathernecks host the Leatherneck Invitational, which includes matches against Fairleigh Dickinson, Tennessee Tech and Evansville. 
•South Dakota State makes a trip down to Kansas City, Mo., where the Jackrabbits will meet up with Kansas City and Austin Peay on Friday and Western Michigan on Saturday.
•Purdue Fort Wayne opens its season with a home-court advantage as the Mastodons host Indiana State (Friday), Liberty and Oakland (Saturday).
•Oral Roberts opens its season in Laramie, Wyo., at the Rumble in the Rockies against No. 15 Colorado, who reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championships in 2017. The weekend continues for the Golden Eagles with a match against Wyoming (Friday) and North Florida (Saturday).
