SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha junior Marlon Ruffin garnered the initial #SummitMBB Player of the Week award for the 2020-21 season, league officials announced Monday. The league’s reigning Sixth Man of the Year averaged 16.3 ppg and 3.7 rpg en route to earning a spot on the Gulf Coast Showcase All-Tournament Team.
Ruffin reached double figures off the bench in all three contests at the multi-team event played in Fort Meyers, Fla., opening the season with a 20-point outing against Austin Peay. In the Mavericks next tilt, Ruffin went for 18 points, four rebounds and two steals in a 60-59 win over Middle Tennessee. He went 7-for-7 from the foul line, including two clutch ones with 1.2 seconds to play that gave Omaha its first win of the season.
He capped the tournament with 11 points and another 7-for-7 effort from the charity stripe in loss to Abilene Christian. Ruffin finished the three games shooting 42 percent from the field and only missed one free throw in 19 attempts (94.7 percent).
