SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Summit League swimmers and divers put up impressive record-breaking and NCAA Zone Qualifying performances, specifically the St. Cloud hosted Rochester Invite, with Omaha and St. Thomas collecting the TicketSmarter Summit League Swimmers and Divers of the Week, league officials announced on Tuesday.
Omaha swept the Swimmers of the Week, with Daniel Young earning the men’s honor, while Hailey Matthews received the women’s accolade. Young helped the Mavericks to a first-place team finish and was a part of four relay victories in the 200 and 400 Medley, along with the 800 and 200 Free Relay. Additionally, the Park Ridge, Ill., native placed first individually in the 200 IM (1:49.02), 100 breast (53.90) and 100 IM (50.32).
Matthews had quite the performance in Rochester, Minn., as she helped the Mavericks to a first-place finish out of 10 schools by setting two program records in the 500 Free (4:58.21) and 200 free (1:50.33), with the latter being a 20-year old record that was broken. The Edgewood, Colo., native also swam the first leg of the 400 Medley Relay that broke a school record with a time of 3:46.48 and finished first in the 100 back (56.15), 200 fly (2:04.23) and 400 Free Relay (3:27.48).
St. Thomas swept awards of their own, collecting both Divers of the Week, as the senior duo of Andrew Godfrey and Peyton Ekman had impressive scores in the 1-meter dive. Godfrey scored a 379.00 in the 1-meter dive, placing sixth overall and has the top two 1-meter diving scores this season. Ekman, who earned her second diver of the week honor of the season, posted an NCAA Zone Qualifying mark of 416.50 in the 1-meter dive, placing fourth overall.
