SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Western Illinois swept The Summit League Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week honors with senior Abby Carlin claiming the pitching accolade and sophomore Piper Foote earning the player accolade, league officials announced Monday.
Carlin appeared in both games of a doubleheader sweep against Bradley, logging eight innings and allowing only one earned run while fanning 12 Braves' batters. In her first appearance, Carlin struck out 11 in a complete-game effort, allowing one earned run in the 6-1 victory. In game two, the Huxley, Iowa native pitched a scoreless sixth inning to help three Leatherneck hurlers combine for a shutout.
Foote went 4-for-6 and added three runs scored and three RBI in the doubleheader sweep. The Antoich, Ill., native went 3-for-4 in game two, driving in the first run with a RBI-single in the first and added a two-run homer to cap the scoring in the fifth. She opened the doubleheader going for 1-for-2 at the plate with a run scored.
