Rewind To The 80's at The #March2TheSummit Basketball Championships

Fans will have daily experiences revolving around the 80’s as we celebrate our 40th Anniversary

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Summit League Basketball fans will have the chance to go back in time and experience the decade of the 80’s in a variety of different ways at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center throughout the course of the upcoming 2022 Men’s and Women’s Championships.

The festivities start right away as fans will help the League celebrate its 40th Anniversary. They will be treated to photo ops with a DeLorean that is similar to the one that appeared in the hit movie “Back To The Future”. The car will be located at the main entrance on Saturday and Sunday.

Also, after purchasing an official championship program, fans will be able to participate in a scavenger hunt with a chance to win a radical 80’s prize pack. Rules will be located on page nine.

Fans are also encouraged to download the Summit League Rewards app powered by Yellow Jacket Irrigation and Landscaping. Visit www.thesummitleague.org/app to download and learn more about the rewards program.

Fans can accrue points throughout the four days by checking in during tournament games and around various locations in and around Sioux Falls. The top five-point totals will be entered to win a variety of prizes, including two 2023 all-session lower-level tickets.

There will be a photo booth full of 80’s props and paraphernalia located behind Section 103 where fans can take pictures with mascot cutouts. Fans can also purchase 80’s-themed apparel from their favorite teams at the merchandise located in this same area.

Here’s a breakdown of all the opportunities fans will have to help the League celebrate it’s Ruby Anniversary.

Saturday
  • The first 500 fans in attendance at Session I (women’s quarterfinals) will receive a Summit League-branded slap bracelet courtesy of Benjamin Moore.
Sunday
  • The first 500 fans in attendance at Session III (women’s quarterfinals) will receive a Summit League-branded head band.
  • The South Dakota Ghostbusters will be mingling throughout the crowd from 11:30 a.m. -3 p.m., so be on the lookout for these characters.
Tournament Activities
  • Fans are encouraged to wear their favorite 80’s apparel throughout the weekend. Those fans who submit 80’s photos at thesummitleague.org/80sphotos or by using the hashtag #SummitReaches40 on Instagram and Twitter for a chance to win two all-session lower-level tickets to the 2023 Championships. The winner of the tickets will be contacted March 10.
  • A special “Let It Fly To 82” promotion will run throughout all 14 games of the tournaments. If any team scores 82 or more points during the Basketball Championships, all ticket holders will be able to receive $10 off a $50 purchase at Let It Fly Sports Bar. Offer valid Saturday, March 5-10. One credit per transaction.
  • Fans can also enter to win a $500 gift card to Scheels, for contest details and more information visit www.thesummitleague.org/scheels. The contest closes at Midnight on Wednesday, March 9.
  • The Summit League cheer and dance squads will perform 80’s-themed dance routines during the quarterfinal games on Saturday and Sunday. Fans can vote for their favorite performance at www.thesummitleague.org/vote. The winning performance will receive a $1,000 donation to the spirit squad.
