#SummitSB Weekly Notebook: No. 8

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The first week of league play saw several stellar performances and it’s going to be another exciting week of action. Kansas City, Omaha, South Dakota and Western Illinois opened league play last week at home and will remain at home week when they each host a trio of league games.
 
After the first week of league action, USD, South Dakota State, Kansas City and St. Thomas are all 2-1 in league play and will look to build some momentum this week.

Around The League
• St. Thomas freshman infielder Brooke Ellestad guided the Tommies to a series win at Western Illinois in what was the program’s first conference matchup as a Summit League member. The Kimberly, Wis., native finished the series 7-for-11 (.636), scored three runs, drove in five RBI and registered one walk and was named the TicketSmarter #SummitSB Player of the Week.
• South Dakota pitcher Clara Edwards earned her third Pitcher of the Week accolade after going 2-0 to open league play against North Dakota State, where she tossed two six-hit complete-game wins in 14 innings of work.
• USD captured their first series win against NDSU since 2017 and snapped the Bison’s 26-game winning streak against in Vermillion.
• South Dakota State opened league play with a 2-1 series victory at Omaha. Sophomore infielder Lindsey Culver batted .455 on the weekend with two home runs, with both coming in the series finale, 6-0.
• SDSU pitcher Grace Glanzer went 2-0 against the Mavericks and gave up only two walks and three runs across two games. Her weekend was highlighted by pitching 4.2 innings where she struck out six batters and gave up three hits.
• Omaha captured a 2-0 win to open the series against SDSU, and it was the Mavericks’ first regular season win against the Jackrabbits since 2018. Sophomore outfielder Izzy Eltze belted her fifth home run of the season, while junior pitcher Kamryn Meyer earned her sixth shutout of the season, retiring eight batters.
• Kansas City senior pitcher Mia Hoveland threw two complete game efforts in 15 innings of work against UND. She held the Fighting Hawks scoreless through 14 of those innings, allowing 10 hits and recording 10 strikeouts.
• Teammate Kloe Hilbrenner tallied three more stolen bases over the weekend to extend her league lead with 17 stolen bases, which is tied for 26th in the country. She also drew four walks and recorded a .667 on-base percentage over the weekend.
• North Dakota’s Jannay Jones went the distance in the series opening 2-0 win at Kansas City. In her eight innings of work, she had five strikeouts while allowing five hits.
• Lainey Lyle of NDSU flirted with a no hitter against the Coyotes as she led the Bison to a victory with a complete game win. She was perfect through three and ended up tossing a two-hitter in the circle, allowing one unearned run with four strikeouts.
• North Dakota State’s Cameryn Maykut finished the weekend batting .700 at the plate at South Dakota, going 7-for-10 overall with a home run, two doubles and slugged 1.200. She extended her team and Summit League lead in RBIs as she totaled five more while also scoring three runs.
• Western Illinois opened their home series against St. Thomas with a 9-8 victory, as designated player Savannah Rodriguez and recorded two hits, including a double and drove in two runs. Furthermore, eight of the nine starting positions players recorded at least one hit.
