OMAHA, Neb. – The Denver Pioneers extended their league record championship titles to eight straight with a 4-0 win over No. 3 South Dakota Saturday afternoon at Miracle Hill Tennis Center.
The Pioneers came out swinging and took an early 1-0 lead capturing the doubles point. Britt Pursell and Camille Verden-Anderson took the first match after defeating Habiba Aly and Jana Lazarevic 6-1 on the top court. Denver clinched the doubles point after Toni Nelson and Taylor Melville overcame Beata Havlickova and Natalie Kmoskova, 6-4 in the No. 2 spot.
Denver continued to bring the energy into singles action with Nelson pushing the Pios' lead to 2-0 after defeating Eesha Varma 6-0, 6-0 on the No. 6 court.
Pursell extended the lead 3-0 with a victory over Havlickova (6-1, 6-2) at the No. 3 spot in the lineup.
Newcomer of the Year Andrea Burguete Beltran clinched the Pioneers' eighth straight championship trophy with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Berta Girbau on the No. 5 court.
