TULSA, Okla. – Top-seeded Denver captured its 12th consecutive Summit League Women’s Tennis Championship with a dominant 4-0 sweep of No. 3 North Dakota on Saturday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa. The Pioneers, ranked No. 65 in the ITA standings, continued their dynasty under head coach Paul Wardlaw with another decisive title match performance.
Denver set the tone early by claiming the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 1 positions.The duo of Claudia Martinez de Velasco and Louise Wikander opened with a 6-3 victory over UND's Andrea Pineda and Alva Norberg, followed by Yunfei Cai and Marley Lambert, who secured the point with a 6-3 win against Ethel Li and Jule Schulte for the 1-0 lead.
The Pioneers carried that momentum into singles play, quickly building a commanding advantage. Martinez de Velasco delivered a 6-1, 6-1 win over Emma Roberts at No. 6 to make the score 2-0, while Zoe Adkins followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Norberg at No. 4 to push the lead to 3-0.
Summit League Women's Player of the Year, Wikander, sealed the championship for Denver with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Li at the No. 1 position, clinching the 4-0 victory and sending the Pioneers to another conference title.
With the win, Denver extended its remarkable run atop the Summit League, securing its 12th straight championship and earning the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
