SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- North Dakota State's Rocky Kreuser, South Dakota State’s Matt Dentlinger and Oral Roberts’ Max Abmas were all repeat honorees selected to the 2021-22 Summit League Academic All-League Team as voted by the league's faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors.
For Kreuser, it was the fourth straight season he earned the honor, while Dentlinger garnered his third accolade and Abmas collected his second. That trio was joined by St. Thomas graduate student Burt Hedstrom and North Dakota State senior Tyree Eady. The players were chosen for the honor based on their academic and athletic performances during this past season.
Kreuser owns a 4.00 GPA during his pursuit of a master’s degree in health, nutrition and exercise science after completing a bachelor’s degree in university studies with a 3.62 GPA. The White Bear Lake, Minn., native averaged 16.7 ppg and shared the league lead in rebounding (7.7 rpg) en route to earning all-league first team and all-tournament team honors for the second straight season.
A back-to-back CoSIDA Academic All-American, Dentlinger earned a 3.99 GPA in mechanical engineering and has a 4.00 GPA in his pursuit of a master’s degree in engineering. On the basketball floor, he averaged 5.5 ppg for the first undefeated men’s basketball team in the 40-year history of the Summit League.
Abmas owns a 3.73 GPA in mathematics with a chemistry emphasis. He won the Summit League scoring crown with a 24.1 ppg average in league play this past season and ranked among the top five scorers nationally with a 22.8 ppg overall clip.
A Division III Academic All-American in 2020-21, Hedstrom graduated with a 3.97 GPA in mechanical engineering and owns a 4.00 GPA in his efforts towards a master’s in regulatory science. He averaged 6.7 ppg and 3.5 rpg during the Tommies’ first season at the Division I level.
Eady earned his first all-academic selection after earning a bachelor’s degree in exercise science with a 3.72 GPA and starting his pursuit of a master’s degree in health, nutrition and exercise science with a 4.00 GPA. Eady was named to the Summit League All-Defensive Team and holds three NABC Honors Court selections during his career. He started all 32 games for the Bison and averaged 11.2 ppg during league play.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of his team's competitions.
