Around The League
• South Dakota State earned its second straight league title and will be the top seed in this week’s #SummitSB Championships, hosted by the Jackrabbits at Jackrabbit Softball Stadum in Brookings, S.D.
• SDSU boast the top-two pitchers in league play in terms of ERA with the sophomore duo of Grace Glanzer (11-0, 0.63 ERA) and Tori Kniesche (7-2, 0.80 ERA), and the top-two battery mates in league play in Rozelyn Carrillo (.477) and Allison Yoder (.469). For the second straight season, SDSU’s Cylie Halvorson leads the league with 15 home runs.
• Also for the second straight season, Omaha earned the second seed in the league tournament and are led by junior pitcher Kamryn Meyer, who is 20-5 on the season with a 1.13 ERA.
• In league play, Omaha’s Kamryn Meyer has pitched nine complete games and leads the Mavericks in wins (7), ERA (0.94), shutouts (6), innings pitched (89.0) and strikeouts (154). Meyer also set the single-season program record for most strikeouts in a season with (260) strikeouts.
• Teammates Jamie White, Lynsey Tucker, Izzy Eltze and Maggie O’Brien have played and started in all 41 games this season as Eltze leads the team in home runs with nine, and a .385 batting average, while White leads the team with 32 RBI.
• North Dakota State earned the No. 3 seed in the league tournament and will face No. 6 seed and in-state rival North Dakota in the second game on Wednesday.
• NDSU’s Dez Cardenas and Cameryn Maykut have fueled the Bison offense this season, as they both have batting averages above .330 and are two of four Bison to have 13 doubles this season, including Avery Wysong and Molly Gates.
• No. 4 seed South Dakota and No. 5 seed Kansas City will kick things off in the opening round game at 2 p.m. CT. The Roos are coming off a three-game home sweep of the Coyotes, and this will be a rematch of last season tournament in the opening round, where Kansas City came out on top with a 10-2, six-inning win.
• Kansas City outfielder Kloe Hilbrenner leads the Roos and the league with 30 stolen bases and is batting .372, the fourth highest in the League. Teammate Mia Hoveland has six wins under her belt and has thrown 117 innings with 88 strikeouts.
• The USD duo of Jordyn Pender (.346) and Aleesia Sainz (.343) rank in the top-ten in batting average, as Sainz leads the team with 11 home runs and 42 RBI. Freshman pitcher Clara Edwards has the fourth-most wins this season with 15 and has struck out 114 batters in 179.2 innings of work.
• South Dakota’s 27-23 regular season record marks one of the top turnarounds in the nation. The Coyotes finished 25 games below .500 a year ago and are +29 from that low this season. USD’s +32 mark entering play last week was second only to Penn State.
• North Dakota rounded out the tournament field this year, as they clinched a spot with a Western Illinois loss against the Mavericks on Sunday. UND pitcher Jannay Jones will look to advance past the Bison for the second straight season as the senior boasts a 3.21 ERA with 73 strikeouts and has recorded six victories.
