SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A total of 15 student-athletes have been named to the 2022 Summit League Softball Academic All-League Team as voted on by a panel of sports information directors and faculty athletic representatives from the league's member institutions.
The student-athletes were chosen for the honor based on their academic and athletic performances this past season. South Dakota State paved the way with five total selections, while Omaha earned three selections. Kansas City and North Dakota State both received two total selections, while St. Thomas, South Dakota and Western Illinois had one honoree apiece.
Western Illinois’ Abby Carlin received the honor for the third-straight year, while NDSU’s Paige Vargas and SDSU’s Allison Yoder earned the accolade for the second time in three seasons. USD’s Courtney Wilson and South Dakota State’s Grace Glanzer collected their second straight honors, while the remaining eight selections are first time recipients of the award.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions, except pitchers who must have participated in 20 percent of their team’s total contests.
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's participating members, and voting is conducted by both SIDs and FARs. The teams are made up of ten student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
