SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Southern Indiana swept the initial TicketSmarter Summit League Men’s and Women’s Peak Swimmers of the Week awards. Sam Smith earned the men’s swimming honor, while Hayden Shurtz received the women’s accolade after their performances against Valparaiso.
 
Smith placed first in all three individual events he competed in as he made his collegiate debut. The Trafalgar, Ind., native competed in the 1000 freestyle (10:07.57), 200 butterfly (1:58.80) and the 500 freestyle (4:58.16).
 
Shurtz earned a pair of program records in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.66) and 200 breaststroke (2:26.87) in her collegiate debut. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native also helped the 200 Medley Relay team earn a first-place finish with a time of 1:51.00.
