Denver wins 10th straight #SummitSD women’s crown, men’s squad captures ninth title

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – For the 10th consecutive year, it's the Denver women's team that stood atop the podium, while the Pioneer men's team captured its ninth title in 10 years of the Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn. The Pioneer women won their title with a team score of 1,047 points, while the men's team won with a team score of 902 points.

After placing first in the 1-meter dive on day two of the championships, Lindenwood's David Molina-Fregenal won the 3-meter crown with a score of 352.20. Rounding out the top three were Zyad Morsy of Denver (322.45) and Eli Lubell of Denver (316.20).

In the 100-yard IM, Lindenwood picked the women's title in Beata Maruszczyk, winning the event with a time of 56.69. She was joined on the podium by South Dakota's Taylor Buhr (56.85) and Cassie Ketterling (57.31). On the men's side, it was Lindenwood's Patryk Winiatowski who won the 100 IM crown in a time of 48.83. Earlier in the preliminaries, Winiatowski broke the League record with a time of 48.15. He was joined on the podium by South Dakota State's Austin Smith (49.17) and South Dakota's Mack Sathre (49.36).

In the championships longest race, the 1,650-yard freestyle, Denver freshman Nika Spehar took the women's event with the fastest time of 16:47.97. Teammate Angelina Lindsay (17:02.82) and South Dakota's Camilla Brogger-Anderson (17:03.50) finished second and third, respectively. On the men's side it was a Denver sweep, as Kieran Watson won the event for the second straight season with the fastest time of 15:17.28. He was joined on the podium by teammates Riley Babson and Joe Hancock.

Denver's Natalie Arky claimed the 200-yard backstroke for the second straight season in a winning time of 1:53.94. She was joined on the podium by teammate Lindenwood's Stephanie Marks (1:58.62) and Denver's Sofia Nosack (2:00.26). On the men's side, DU's Dylan Wright captured his second consecutive title with a winning time of 1:43.85. South Dakota State's Denilson Cyprianos (1:44.03) and Matheo Mateos-Mongelso of Lindenwood (1:46.61) placed second and third, receptively.
 
In the women's 100-yard freestyle, South Dakota's Emily Kahn earned herself the title with a time of 49.80 and was joined on the podium by South Dakota State's Elisabeth Timmer (50.30) and Denver's Erika Remington (50.39). Lindenwood's Elliott Irwin earned another gold medal on the men's side with a time of 43.42. He was joined on the winner's stand by teammate Ondrej Dusa (43.94) and Frank Tirone (43.99) on Denver.

In the women's 200-yard breaststroke, it was another Denver victory as Jessica Maeda (2:12.69) took gold for the second straight year, while Beata Maruszcztk (2:16.43) earned silver and DU's Sophia Bricker (2:17.60) received the bronze. On the men's side, it was Denver 's Alex Lynch (1:56.25) edging St. Thomas' Joe Rudd (1:56.26) by .01 seconds, followed by Marco Nosack (1:56.66) for third. In the preliminaries Lynch tied a League record with a time of 1:55.70.

In the final individual swimming event of the evening, the Pioneers swept again on the women's side as Mia Moulden earned herself the title in back-to-back seasons in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:01.56. Teammates Daniela Alfaro Saldana (2:03.06) and Omaha's Hailey Matthews (2:03.22) finishes second and third, respectively. Brandon Chapman of Denver claimed the men's title for the second straight season with a time of 1:46.05, while teammate Dan Junin (1:47.71) and Sebastian Silva of Lindenwood placed third (1:48.13).

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Denver took the top spot in both the women's and men's race. The Pioneer women's squad recorded a winning time of 3:22.35 was consisted of Kali Metzulas, Megan Lucyshyn, Ines Marin and Erike Remington. The Lindenwood men's 400-yard freestyle relay recorded a winning time of 2:55.57. The relay quartet was consisted of Patryk Winiatowski, Mattia Giurgevich, Ondrej Dusa and Elliott Irwin.
