INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Oral Roberts senior guard Max Abmas, who also collected
Associated Press honorable mention All-America honors Tuesday for the third straight season, was named a to the 2022-23 U.S. Basketball Writers Association's (USBWA) All-America Honorable Mention team, the association announced on Wednesday.
Abmas earned Championship MVP honors for the second time in his career (2021) with a 27-point, 11-assist performance against the Bison. His 11 assists equaled his career-high and the most by a player in a title game. In three games, the sharpshooting guard averaged 21.0 ppg and 7.0 apg as ORU won its second title in three season. Abmas ranks seventh nationally in scoring at 22.4 ppg and fifth in 3-pointers made with 117 and he became the third player in League history to surpass the 2,500-point plateau in ORU's semifinal win over St. Thomas on March 6 .
Abmas currently ranks second all-time in scoring with 2,550 points and is the League's all-time career leader in 3-pointers made with 418. The Rockwall, Texas native is the first in League history to make 100 or more 3-pointers in three different seasons. He averaged 26.7 ppg during ORU's run to the Sweet 16 in 2021 and scored 29 points in the overtime win against Ohio State in the round of 64, which is tied for the third most points by a Summit League player in a tournament game.
Summit League regular season and tournament champion Oral Roberts returns to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons. The Golden Eagles earned the No. 12 seed in the East Region and will face No. 5 seed Duke in a Round of 64 clash between two of the hottest teams in Division I basketball on Thursday at 6:10 p.m. CT on CBS.
