TULSA, Okla. – The Denver Pioneers extended their league record championship titles to nine straight with a 4-0 win over No. 3 North Dakota Saturday afternoon at Bernis Duke Tennis Center.
The Pioneers came out swinging and took an early 1-0 lead capturing the doubles point. Louise Wikander and Caroline Driscoll took the first match after defeating Nyah Kauders and Charlotte Bowles, 6-2, at the third court. Denver clinched the doubles point after Andrea Burguete Beltran and Claudia Martinez de Velasco beat Nore Heinitz and Jule Schulte, 7-5, at the No. 2 spot.
Denver continued to bring the energy into singles action with Nelson pushing the Pios’ lead to 2-0 after Taylor Melville defeated Nyah Kauders 6-0, 6-1 on the No. 1 court. Britt Pursell beat Andrea Jansson 6-0, 6-0 at the third spot to make it 3-0 Pioneers before Andrea Burguete Beltran clinched the match by defeating Sapir Sela 6-2, 6-0 for the Pioneers’ their ninth straight championship trophy.
