SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A total of 12 student-athletes have been named to the 2023 Summit League Softball Academic All-League Team as voted on by a panel of sports information directors and faculty athletic representatives from the league's member institutions.
The student-athletes were chosen for the honor based on their academic and athletic performances this past season. South Dakota State paved the way with four total selections, while Omaha earned three selections. North Dakota State and South Dakota each received two total selections, while North Dakota had one honoree.
South Dakota’s Courtney Wilson, the 2023 Summit League Softball Scholar of the Championship presented by JLG Architects, received the honor for the third-straight year, while Omaha’s Kamryn Meyer and Lynsey Tucker, SDSU’s Tori Kniesche and Emma Osmundson and North Dakota State’s Emilee Buringa earned the accolade for the second straight season. The remaining six selections are first time recipients of the award.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions, except pitchers who must have participated in 20 percent of their team’s total contests.
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's participating members, and voting is conducted by both SIDs and FARs. The teams are made up of ten student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
