DU's Bruner, ORU's McBride shares TicketSmarter #SummitMBB weekly honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Denver guard Tommy Bruner and Oral Roberts guard Issac McBride shared the latest TicketSmarter Summit League Men’s Basketball Peak Performer of the Week honor of the season, League officials announced Monday. The weekly honor is the fifth of the season for Bruner, while McBride was recognized for the third time.

Bruner opened the week by scoring 49 points and dishing out eight assists in a 111-110 double-overtime home win against South Dakota. His 49 points were the most by a Division I player in a game this season and fifth most by a Summit League player all-time and fourth most in a conference game.

Bruner went toe-to-toe with South Dakota’s Kaleb Stewart, who churned out a career-high 44 points, in the first Division I dueling 40-point games in over three seasons. He scored 12 of his points in the final minute of the first overtime, including a four-point play in the waning seconds to force the second extra session.

In double-overtime, collected his third steal of the game in the closing seconds that set up Isaiah Addo-Ankrah’s game-winning three-pointer for the Pioneers.

He added four assists and three rebounds against the Mavericks. His 35.0 ppg average in the Summit split has his national-leading average up to 26.1 ppg.

Reigning regular season and tournament champion Oral Roberts entered the week tied for last in the League standings but McBride led the Golden Eagles to back-to-back wins to level their record at 4-4.

McBride scored a game-high 22 points in a 74-67 win over Omaha, adding five rebounds and five assists as ORU snapped a three-game skid in League play. The Little Rock, Ark., native scored nine points in the final two minutes after the Mavericks had trimmed a 15-point deficit down to five.

After being held to just two first-half points against South Dakota State, McBride scored 17 after halftime to lead the Golden Eagles to an 87-82 win over the League-leading Jackrabbits.

McBride finished with 19 points, six assists and five rebounds and went 11-for-11 from the foul line. The Jacks’ had cut a 15-point deficit down to four at 75-71 with less than three minutes to play before McBride hit a jumper and made two free throws on back-to-back possessions to push the lead back to eight.

McBride averaged 20.5 ppg, 5.5 apg, 5.0 rpg and went 19-for-19 on free throws in ORU’s two victories that now have them in the middle of the standings that is only separated by three games from top to bottom.
