#SummitXC Championships set for Saturday

The 2024 Summit League Cross Country Championships headed to Vermillion, S.D.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The 2024 Summit League Cross Country Championships are set to take place Saturday at the Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion, S.D., hosted by South Dakota. The women's race will begin at 11 a.m. CT with the men's to follow at 12 p.m. CT.

Women's Notables
  • Reigning team champion South Dakota looks to claim its second-straight trophy and seventh in the last 10 years.
  • Within the last five years, North Dakota State and South Dakota State each have a pair of team titles.
  • Of the 2023 Women's All-Summit League honorees for the Coyotes, only 2023 Newcomer of the Championship Madison Brouwer returns to the championships.
  • The 5K League leader, Meghan Ford, will make an appearance on the course for South Dakota State along with fellow teammates Mya Kizer and Jessica Lutmer. Both Kizer and Lutmer were 2023 All-Summit League second team honorees.
  • North Dakota State returns 2023 All-Summit League first teamer Grace Link and second team honoree Reagan Baesler.
  • Baesler enters the championship with a league-leading three peak former weekly honors as well as three of the top 10 6K times among the League this season.
  • St. Thomas' Molly Desotell is the only other individual to make an appearance from last year's top 14 finishers.
  • North Dakota's Eliana Malnourie owns the league's best 6K time (20:20.1) and two weekly honors heading into the championships.
  • As of Oct. 21, the League has two teams sitting in the top 15 of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Midwest Regional Rankings. The Bison currently rank No. 12 while the Jackrabbits squad sits at No. 13.

Men's Notables
  • The Jackrabbit men look to extend their League record and hoist the trophy for the ninth straight year. South Dakota State is the only current League member to have earned a Summit League Cross Country Championship title since rebranding to The Summit League in 2007.
  • From last year's men's All-Summit League honorees, SDSU returns Championship MVP and Newcomer of the Championship Carson Noecker as well as first team award winner Josh Becker.
  • Noecker garnered a pair of peak performer weekly awards and two of the top 10 8k times this season.
  • Ahead of the championships, Oral Roberts' Abraham Chelangam owns the League's top 6K time (17:45.7) and 8K time (23:35.4) this season. He also earned a league-best three peak performer honors for his performances during the regular season.
  • Four men broke the 24-minute barrier in the 8K event during the season: Chelangam (23:35.4 and 23:52.8), Noecker (23:56.5), North Dakota State's Hunter Klimek (23:52.3) and North Dakota's Ian Busche (23:58.7).
  • Six of the League's 14 All-Summit League honorees from the 2023 championships came from NDSU. Of those six, three will be running at the championship this year: Jake Arason, Klimek and Tyson Mahar.
  • UND's Busche and St. Thomas' Caden Nordberg are the only other 2023 All-Summit League award winners scheduled to take the championship course again this year.
  • The USTFCCCA rankings saw North Dakota State and South Dakota State make an appearance among the top 15 in the Midwest Region. The Bison sit at No. 6 while the Jackrabbits sit at No. 12.
