South Dakota State claims both Summit League Cross Country Championship trophies

VERMILLION, S.D. – For the third time in program history, the South Dakota State Jackrabbits hoisted both Summit League Cross Country Championship trophies Saturday at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion, S.D.. The Jackrabbit men garnered their league record ninth-consecutive championship title while the women captured their third crown in the last five years.

Top Performers
North Dakota State senior Reagan Baesler ran away with the women's 6K individual crown and Championship MVP title after crossing the finish line in a time of 20:34.04. Baesler completed the event over 20 seconds ahead of second-place runner Eliana Malnourie of North Dakota (20:58.29).
 
Her winning time ranks second all-time in Summit League Cross Country Championship history.
 
South Dakota State's Courtney Stadter is the first Jackrabbit since Ellie Friesen in 2018 to earn the Newcomer of the Championship award. Stadter was the first true freshman to cross the finish line of the 6k race in a career-best time of 20:59.88, good for third overall.
 
Oral Roberts sophomore Abraham Chelangam clocked a Summit League Cross Country Championship meet record 8k time of 23:41.43 to earn the individual crown and Championship MVP honors. He became the first Golden Eagle to earn the Championship MVP title since ORU's Jonah Lagat claimed the honor the first year it was created (2008).
 
South Dakota State's Eli Hall is the second consecutive Jackrabbit to take home the Newcomer of the Championship award. The academic true freshman finished the 8k race in a career-best time of 24:39.42 earning himself sixth place overall.

  • Baesler's winning time (20:34.04) ranks second all-time in Summit League Cross Country Championship history.
  • South Dakota's Madison Brouwer and North Dakota State's Grace Link captured their second-straight All-Summit League first team honors.
  • South Dakota State's Jessica Lutmer and Mya Kizer as well as St. Thomas' Molly Desotell were repeat honorees on the All-Summit League second team.
  • Chelangam (23:41.43) and Noecker (23:51.47) both crossed the finish line under the meet record (23:53.4) and were the only two athletes to break the 24-minute barrier during the men's 8k race.
  • Chelangham is the first Golden Eagle to earn the Championship MVP title since ORU's Jonah Lagat claimed the honor the first year it was created (2008).
  • Noecker and teammate Josh Becker were the only two from last year's All-Summit League first team to place in the top seven again this year.
  • North Dakota State's Hunter Klimek and Jake Arason earned All-Summit League second team honors a year ago. Today they moved up into the top seven, claiming All-Summit League first team accolades.
