SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State outfielder Emma Osmundson and Omaha pitcher Kamryn Meyer were named the season’s first TicketSmarter Summit League Softball Peak Performer and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, following the opening weekend of the college softball season, League officials announced Monday.
Osmundson led the Jackrabbits to a 3-2 ledger at the Fresno State Kickoff Classic where the senior went 7-for-17 with a home run, three doubles, while scoring five runs and recording a team-high six RBI. The Sioux Falls, S.D., native batted .438 over the five-game stretch in California and finished with a .813 slugging percentage.
In the season-opening 20-8 win against Fresno State, Osmundson went 2-for-4 with two walks and three RBI. Osmundson recorded another pair of hits in a 1-0 triumph over Santa Clara where she drove in the game-winning run with a double. She added a single to her stat line and was the only Jackrabbit to produce a hit off the Santa Clara hurler.
Osmundson recorded one hit in each of the remaining three games and drove in two more runs against the Broncos in the fourth game of the tournament.
Meyer notched two wins in complete-game fashion at the UNI Dome Tournament as the fifth-year senior struck out 25 batters, while allowing just six hits on three earned runs. The Wilton, Iowa native earned the 4-1 win in Omaha’s season-opener against Butler where she fired seven innings with 14 strikeouts. She allowed just one earned run and gave up three hits to the Bulldogs.
In a 6-2 victory over Northern Iowa, Meyer notched 11 strikeouts and surrendered three hits, allowing two earned runs with three walks. Against the Panthers, Meyer recorded her 800
th career strikeout and became only the sixth pitcher in League history to achieve that feat.
