MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – For the 11
th consecutive year, it's the Denver women's team that stood atop the podium, while the Pioneer men's team captured its 10
th title in 11 years of the Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn. The Pioneer women won their title with a team score of 980 points, while the men's team won with a team score of 868 points.
Denver's Kaitlin Calvery stood atop the 3-meter dive podium on day four of the championships with a winning score of 304.10. She was joined on the podium by teammate Olivia Gordon (299.45) and Omaha's Darby Drake (291.80).
In the championships longest race, the 1,650-yard freestyle, Denver sophomore Nika Spehar took the women's event for the second straight season with the fastest time of 16:38.89. South Dakota's Camilla Brooger-Anderson (17:02.99) and Lindendwood's Megan Hollaar (17:07.22) took second and third, respectively. On the men's side, Denver Kieran Watson won the event for the third straight season with the fourth fastest time in league history of 15:01.61. He was joined on the podium by South Dakota State's Jack Ellison (15:37.84) and Denver Connor Hughes (15:40.85).
Nika Spehar of Denver claimed the 200-yard backstroke in a winning time of 1:57.28. She was joined on the podium by Lindenwood's Stephanie Marks (1:58.55) and Denver's Darian Koler (1:59.25). On the men's side, DU's Dylan Wright captured his third consecutive title with a winning an NCAA B Cut time of 1:42.86. South Dakota State's Denilson Cyprianos (1:44.64, NCAA B Cut) and Matheo Mateos-Mongelos of Lindenwood (1:46.28) placed second and third, receptively.
In the women's 100-yard freestyle, South Dakota's Emily Kahn earned herself the title for the second straight season with a time of 49.58, the fifth fastest time in league history, and was joined on the podium by the Denver duo of Erika Remington (50.03) and Ines Marin (50.39). Lindenwood's Elliott Irwin earned another gold medal on the men's side with an NCAA B Cut time of 43.39. He was joined on the winner's stand by teammate Piotr Kowalczyk (43.70) and Ondrej Dusa (44.16).
In the women's 200-yard breaststroke, it was another Denver victory as Jessica Maeda (2:11.01, NCAA B Cut) took gold for the second third year for the fourth fastest time in league history, while Taylor Buhr of South Dakota (2:14.57) earned silver and St. Thomas' Grace Urkiel (2:16.65) received the bronze. On the men's side, it was Denver 's Alex Lynch (1:56.19) who collected his second straight title in the event, while Lindenwood's Polat Tasbasi (1:56.90, NCAA B Cut) and Denver's Marco Nosack (1:57.57) placed second and third, respectively.
In the final individual swimming event of the evening, the Pioneers took the top two spots in the 200-yard butterfly with Sarah Turchanik placing first (2:02.38) and Sabrina Rachjaibun earning second (2:02.46). Hailey Matthews of Omaha (2:03.73) rounded out the medal winners. Dylan Wright of Denver claimed the men's title with a time of 1:45.05, while teammate Brandon Champman (1:46.98) and Lindenwood's Patryk Winiatowski (1:48.17) placed second and third, respectively.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, South Dakota took the top spot in the women's race. The Coyote women's squad recorded a winning time of 3:21.15 consisted of Gabrielle Ahrendt, Skyler Leverenz, Carson White and Emily Kahn. The Lindenwood men's 400-yard freestyle relay recorded a winning time of 2:53.14 in its last event as a program. The relay quartet consisted of Ondrej Dusa, Piotr Kowalczyk, Patryk Winiatowski and Elliott Irwin.
