SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota State’s Mia Jarecki and Tori Kniesche swept the latest TicketSmarter Summit League Peak Performer of the Pitcher of the Week nods, respectively, League officials announced Monday.
Jarecki tied a program record and had a career day in a pair of victories in a doubleheader sweep over South Dakota. The Papillion, Neb., native went 4-for-4 at the plate in game one to go along with a home run, two RBI, three runs scored and three stolen bases. Her three stolen bases tied a program record for a single game.
She followed that up with a two-hit performance and another three runs scored. In the doubleheader, Jarecki went 6-for-7 (.857) with two RBI, six runs scored, five stolen bases and a home run.
Kniesche threw the ninth no-hitter of her career and second this season in an 8-0 triumph over the Coyotes. The Wayne, Neb., native struck out seven of the 15 batters she faced through the first five innings of play. She recorded another strikeout to begin the sixth inning, but a walk drawn by a Coyote batter ended her perfect game bid.
Her no-hitter remained though, and she got a flyout and strikeout to end the sixth. In the seventh, she got USD to hit into a pair of flyouts as well as an infield popup to close out the game. Kniesche struck out nine batters and walked just one in seven innings of work.
