BROOKINGS, S.D. – Kansas City advanced to the second round of the Summit League Softball Championship with a 5-2 win against No. 6 Kansas City at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium.
Katie Noble drove home the first run of the contest with a bases loaded walk, bringing home Sydney Nichols.
All-League first team pitcher Camryn Stickel escaped the top of the third inning with runners on first and second with two outs by getting NDSU’s Reanna Rudd to ground out right to her to end the frame.
After Lexy Smith doubled to left field with one out, Briona Woods brought her home with a double of her own to make it a 2-0 contest. With runners or second and third, Elleana Navarro made it 4-0 thanks to a single to right field and brought home Woods along with Kadin Vire via a fielding error.
North Dakota State ended Stickel’s scoreless streak as Reanna Rudd’s sacrifice fly made it a three-run game. Zoe King made it a two-run game thanks to a base hit to left field, bringing home Emilee Buringa. Stickel was escape the threat after a fly ball to right field ended the inning.
After Vire notched a successful sacrifice bunt that advanced runners to second and third with one out, Navarro reached on a fielding error by the right fielder that sent home Woods to make it 5-2 Roos.
After back-to-back walks in the seventh inning, Stickel ended the game after she struck out NDSU’s Chloe Woldruff to collect her 12
th win of the season.
