BROOKINGS, S.D. – Third-seeded Kansas City advanced to the semifinals of the Summit League Softball Championship thanks to a 7-3 victory over No. 4 South Dakota in an elimination game Friday at the Jackrabbit Softball Stadium.
The Roos scored twice in the opening frame on a RBI double from Briona Wood and a RBI single from Sydney Nichols, but the
South Dakota would pull even in the second was the Coyotes got back-to-back RBI singles from Gabby Moser and Abi Brown. Clara Edwards delivered at the plate in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI triple to right field to give the Coyotes what would be their only lead of the game at 3-2.
Woods squared things at 3-3 with her second run-scoring hit of the game and would come around to score the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. The Roos would tack on three more runs before the frame was over as Smith scored on another wild pitch. Sydney Nichols would proceed to hit an RBI groundout before Katie Noble capped the scoring with a two-run triple to right to give her a four-run cushion in the circle.
Noble kept the Coyotes off the scoreboard after the third as she logged her fifth complete game of the season.
