SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Denver midfielder Luke Schultz and defender Trevor Wright swept the latest Kwik Star Summit League Men’s Soccer Peak Performer of the Week accolades, league officials announced Tuesday. Schultz earned his first career offensive award, while Wright claimed his first of the season and third of his career.
Wright and Schultz produced all the scoring for the Pioneers in their 2-1 victory at (14/20) Georgetown last Tuesday, then helped DU register a 2-0 blanking of Delaware in Summit play Saturday.
Schultz assisted on the equalizer against the Hoyas as Wright finished off a corner kick in the 19
th minute after Georgetown had briefly pulled ahead less than a minute earlier.
The Arvada, Colo., native then scored the latest game-winner in DU’s program history when his free kick with 16 seconds remaining found the back of the net from 25 yards out. It was the first two-goal contribution of Schultz’ career.
Wright’s goal against the Hoyas was his second of the season but he also anchored a back line that saw Denver limit two of the nation’s highest-scoring offenses to just one goal from the penalty spot in wins over the Hoyas and Blue Hens.
The Castle Rock, Colo., native and his teammates were the first unit to shutout Delaware on the season and also hand the Blue Hens their first setback of the campaign following a 9-0-1 start.
