Mavericks sweep Kwik Star #SummitSB weekly accolades

Groff and Thomason led Omaha to a 4-0 week

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha third baseman Sydney Thomason and righthander Maddia Groff garnered the latest Kwik Star Summit League Softball Peak Performer and Pitcher of the Week honors, League officials announced Monday.
 
Groff and Thomason led the Mavericks to a 4-0 week as they improved their overall record to 18-4 with a pair of wins over Central Arkansas and Illinois State.  
 
At the plate, Thomason registered a trio of multi-hit games as she went 7-for-13 with three home runs and two doubles, while driving in seven.
 
She homered and scored a career-high four runs in a 12-4 victory over Central Arkansas, then delivered her second multi-homer game in a 6-1 win over Central Arkansas. The Ripon, Calif., native hit a solo home run in the first and belted a three-run homer in the third to break open a 2-1 contest as she finished with a career-high five RBI.
 
Thomason capped her weekend by going 2-for-4 with three RBI in a 9-1 victory over the Redbirds. 
 
Groff picked up two victories over Central Arkansas in the circle, logging 13 innings to go with 18 strikeouts in her two outings against the Bears.
 
The Omaha, Neb., native fanned nine in each of her starts as she improved to 9-2 on the season. In her first start, she tossed her fifth complete game, allowing only one earned run on two hits.
 
She closed out her weekend allowing two earned runs on four hits over six innings of work. Groff fanned nine to move past the century mark on the season with a league-best 102 punchouts.

  • This is Thomason’s first career weekly accolade.
