SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – St. Thomas shortstop Laken Lienhard and Omaha lefthander Maddia Groff claimed the latest Kwik Star Summit League Softball Peak Performer and Pitcher of the Week honors, League officials announced Monday.
Leinhard hit .500 during a 3-1 week for the Tommies that included a 9-4 victory over Creighton and 2-1 series win at South Dakota. In the three games against the Coyotes, the Tommie senior had multiple-hits in each contest and finished with five extra-base hits, including three homes runs and two doubles while driving in five.
In the first game of the series, the Cresco, Iowa native went 2-for-4 with a RBI-double and a run scored in a 7-1 victory. In game two, Leinhard had a RBI-double and hit a go-ahead, solo home run in the seventh inning of a game the Tommies would eventually win 6-4 in 11 innings. She capped her weekend with the first multi-home run game of her career, belting a pair of go-ahead long balls in a game St. Thomas would drop 8-6.
Groff wrote her name in the Omaha history books with a rare weekend in pitching, logging 10 perfect innings in a pair of victories over North Dakota. The Omaha, Neb., native tossed three perfect innings on Saturday during the Mavericks' 20-0, run-rule victory over the Fighting Hawks, then twirled a seven-inning perfect game in the 2-0 series-clinching win over UND.
The Maverick sophomore struck out seven in her three-inning outing, then fanned 13 more in the first perfect game of the season by a Summit League pitcher. She currently leads all Summit League hurlers with a 1.70 ERA and a ledger of 13-4.
